Allocatable and blocked IDN variants of a label under the ICANN Root Zone LGR

Description

Generate the IDN variant set of a label under the ICANN Root Zone Label Generation Rules (RZ-LGR 6), the rules that decide which variants of an IDN TLD may be delegated in the 2026 round.

Returns the allocatable variants (may be delegated to the same applicant alongside the original) and the blocked variants (reserved, may not be delegated to anyone), each as a U-label and A-label with its code points and Unicode scripts. A variant written wholly or partly in a script the label does not use is marked cross_script:true (paypal has 2,242 such variants). Blocked variants also include the label’s collisions from the RZ-LGR Common LGR that its own script’s rules do not list, as ICANN checks them (common_lgr:true; for a Han label they are Han, so the two flags are independent). For a domain name only the leftmost label is varied, and each variant is reassembled into a full name (domain_ascii). datapulse_live_rdap_bulk and datapulse_live_dns_bulk take domain_ascii values and show which are registered.

Order: allocatable; then blocked variants written wholly in another script (whole-script lookalikes, the most deceptive, such as Cyrillic раураӏ for paypal), then wholly in the label’s own script, then mixing scripts; then any other disposition; each group sorted by label.

Results are paged (limit, offset; default 100 variants, about 20 KB): total and counts cover the whole set; truncated:true and next_offset mean more pages exist. Sets run from none to tens of thousands (paypal 2,249). complete:false means the set itself stopped at 100000 variants; variants changing the label’s first letters are then the likeliest to be missing.

The RZ-LGR repertoire is letters only: digits, hyphens and mixed-script labels are refused. Computed locally; no lookups are made. For usage guidance, call datapulse_help(topic="idn_variants")
