Registrar lookup by IANA ID or name search

Description

Look up IANA registrar information by ID or name.

Registrars are the companies that sell/manage registrations (e.g. GoDaddy) — this does NOT search domain owners/registrants.

Two modes:

  1. ID lookup (set iana_id, an integer >= 1): Returns the registrar matching that IANA ID; an unknown ID is an empty list [] with a hint. iana_id 0 in an RDAP record means the registry assigns no IANA IDs (Nominet .uk and other ccTLDs) and cannot be looked up.
  2. Name search (set search): Substring search on registrar name (case-insensitive).

Both modes return iana_id, name, status and domain_count (the registrar’s ICANN Metrica portfolio size; 0 when unscored).

If both iana_id and search are provided, iana_id takes precedence. At least one of iana_id or search must be provided.

Use Cases:

  • Resolve registrar_iana_id from regclusters/techsim results to a human-readable name
  • Find registrar IDs by name for use with other tools
