. EURid – DataPulse Distance

EURid is the non-profit operator of the .eu registry, upon appointment by the European Commission.  Since the very beginning, EURid has worked hard to fight malicious domain name registrations by actively screening .eu domain names data and working closely with law enforcement authorities.

In 2015, a collaborative project between EURid and DataPulse led to the development of the EURid-DataPulse Distance function. This function is deployed as part of the .eu WHOIS, which allows WHOIS lookups to scan the entire .eu and .com zone files (respectively 3.9 million and 116 million domains registered) in mere milliseconds for registrations similar to any given .eu domain. This new function will also help brand holders to have an immediate overview of possibly similar registrations.

Trademark Clearinghouse

ICANN’s Trademark Clearinghouse

In partnership with ICANN’s Trademark Clearinghouse, DataPulse has developed a monitoring service to empower trademark rights owners to protect their intellectual property.  Using advanced similarity algorithms and proprietary Activity Analysis and Server Verification technologies, rights owners can use the Clearinghouse to identify registered domain names that are confusingly similar to existing trademarks. With the recent introduction of hundreds of new domain-name extensions, tens of thousands of new domain names are registered every day. Trademark owners need a tool to monitor those registrations and immediately identify potential abuses.

BrandPulse identifies domain names that are similar to trademarks based on proprietary matching technology. BrandPulse monitors domain name registrations in the 22 established generic TLDs (such as, .COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ, .INFO), all country code TLDs (such as, .DE, .UK, .EU, .US), and new gTLDs (such as, .NYC, .MUSIC, .CLUB) as they are being deployed online.

BrandPulse uses techniques and data sources developed by data scientists and Internet Infrastructure experts employing advanced algorithms to identify confusingly similar domain names with more coverage and more accuracy than any other provider. Daily, high-relevance reports of detected activity helps Trademark owners limit the period of time that “concurrent use” may be claimed.
